Can a Teacher mark you wrong for spelling a name differently?

We all know that spelling of names is subjective. In the past, it was wrong because of a spelling mistake or wrong pronunciation that is projected into words.

When I was in Kindergarten/ Primary school, during English lesson, I would tend to get some of the names wrong and I will lose marks. =(

[Re-enacted =P]

One of my favorite names I like to use was “John” and no matter how careful I was, I always spelt it as “Jhon” so I stopped using that name to avoid losing marks due to “careless mistake” to Jack or Bala or Siti or something.

Little did I know, more than 20years in the future, I would be in a relationship with a man named “Jhon” So HAH! I am correct after all. ‘Cher! I want my marks back!!!

But now, to spell names differently is somewhat is an in-thing where the parents would purposely change the spelling to stand out also known as homonyms; different spelling but sounds the same.

Example:

Syikin > Shikin > Shikyn

Brian > Bryan > Brien

So do teachers still mark a student as wrong when a name is not spelled the textbook way?

Is it wrong to do so?

P/S: I don't have to try to write in kiddy handwriting, that was my actual handwritting and marked by my Jhon. FML

3rd year anniversary photolog

At first, I wanted to write about our relationship but it got too personal and wordy.

Then I wrote how wonderful Jhon is but it got too mushy.

I tried to make a funny questionaire but it got lame.
So i decided to make a photolog instead. ;)

Venue: Bedok Reservoir Park
Date: 23 June 2010 (actual anniversary date)
Time: 7pm onwards

Doing it al fresco for our advanced 3rd year anniversary

[After a few minutes, I just realized how wrong my title sounds lol]

Since our anniversary date falls on a Wednesday and Jhon is lacking of leaves from work, we decided to celebrate it early with a picnic over the weekend.
For the first time, I had to take the passenger seat while Jhon arranged the outing. It was hard for me since I am quite bossy and a planning freak and Jhon is -think-when-the-date-comes- kind of guy. I really tried my best in letting him arrange his way and I passed! Yey!
We prepared the food beforehand at my place and head out to Pasir Ris Park at approximately 12.45pm.

Found a perfect spot under the cluster of trees with the best shades and laid out our stuff.
Food for the picnic, sandwiches! Complete with tuna, mayo, calamansi, tomatoes & lettuce and 2 types of bread.

It was the awesome-st sandwich! I prefer croissants whereas Jhon prefers oatmeal bread.

After digesting the sandwiches, we exchanged our gifts. I don’t know why but it seems so comical for us to do it but it was fun. I even asked Jhon to tie ribbons on the boxes =P

We got each other sport shoes! Reebok & ASICS for me and Nike basketball shoes for Jhon, the reason I have 2 because Jhon’s shoes roughly worth 2 of my shoes haha plus, he insisted that I get the ASICSs so that I can look girly-sporty. -_-

I know I look weird wearing them while wearing my skirt but I can’t wait to try it. =P Love the color of the shoes.

We continued with salad with thousand island sauce which was YUMMY, ate more sandwiches, chit chat, joking around and took more photos.

It was an awesome couple picnic I ever had and everything went perfectly. We head home after 4+ hours, took a shower and met again at night to slack around at my place.
It was the first & sweetest anniversary date I have ever had.
[ I usually don’t celebrate anniversaries]

The finale that was held at Zouk which unfortunately I had missed had already ended but the episode has yet to be aired at their website. So stay tuned to watch who would win!

At first, I was a little doubtful about the show but after watching all the 5 episodes, I realized that I am hooked and curious on who will get the title as The Rookie, plus, they look so business like with their Nokia E72.

Perhaps I should get one so I will look uppity too huh?

A Pinch of my Childhood

My mom bought this for Shibly and I can't resist but play with it since i remember as a kid, my mom had bought for me this too.

I don't know what it is called, but you simply put a gear in the gear hole, place a pen in one of the holes of the gear and go in circles and it will create a beautiful design.

I can't help it but go crazy. hehe

I also bought Viennetta ice-cream which i also called as "Lasagna Ice-Cream" because of the layers of ice-cream goodness with thin slices of chocolate in between. When i was little, i was crazy about this and would almost scowl at anyone who wants a bite. hehe

It's always great to relive your childhood. ^_^

Losing weight the lazy way

[Lazy is very substantial because everyone has their level of laziness, but please do not expect me to tell you that you can lose lots of weight just by doing nothing!]

Do you know that I am actually a skinny person most of my life? I was severely underweight most of the time. I only started to gain weight when I started work and hit 23 when my hyperactive metabolism changed gear to a snail speed.
Taken during my Poly days; I think I am about 48kg here standing at 1.67m.

Less than year after I started work, I began to gain weight which I was very happy about because i love a curvy (at the right places) kind of body.

But as more months passed, I was still ignorant of my weight gain and let myself go haywire. This is my chubbiest at 65kg.

Fortunately, when I gained weight, everything is spread out evenly instead of going only to my thighs or arms or butt. I even managed to achieve bra cup size from A to C. haha Despite that, I generally didn’t like how I look in pictures, how I feel physically and how I get tired easily and I knew if I don’t control myself, there is a big chance of getting worst.

So I did something about it.

Like any person, to exercise/diet can be such a chore like the gym visits or go out of your comfy house just to jog and not eating the food that you want or not eating at all which is very bad practice. So what I did is do it at my own pace and depending on my level of laziness; without eating diet supplements (I never believe in them in long term)

By doing my lazy way of losing weight, I managed to lose 7kgs (currently 58kg) and 3 waist sizes (size 30 to 27) in 1 year. Surprisingly, I get to keep my boobs &  butt! =P
It took me a while but what do you expect? If you are hard working of course, you can lose more weight in a shorter time period but like I said, this guide is for lazy people.

  1. Figure out the source of your weight gain.
Is it chocolates? Is it ice-cream or just generally eat too much? Cut It Down!
Mine is fast food. Still oblivious on the fact that my metabolism rate has slowed down, I was happily eating fast food 4-5 times a week. Not a good idea. Instead of depriving myself of the unhealthy but undoubtedly delicious food, I cut to 2-3 days.

  1. Eat until you are satisfied, not until you are bloated.
Most people are guilty of this especially when it comes to great food; you eat and eat and feel like you are going to explode. Listen to your stomach, Full Means Full; Don’t be Greedy. Don’t eat like your favorite restaurant is going to close the next day.
  1. Find every opportunity to walk an extra meter/kilometer.
Instead of taking the bus at the usual bus station, walk to one bus station ahead and take the bus from there or if you have a car/bike, park further from building’s lobby. Walk! Even for less than 5 minutes. On less lazy days, instead of taking a short bus trip from Eunos MRT to Kaki Bukit, I walk. That is a good 20min walk inclusive of a gentle slope.

  1. Don’t indulge in too many snacks especially at work.
When I started work, I won’t deny that I am one of those people who have a drawer full of biscuits and snacks. Throw all the snacks away. When you are hungry, drink plain water  which increases your metabolism & make you feel full or eat some fruits and if you have the “charitable” colleague, don’t accept all the time like a hungry homeless person.

And guess what, I finally got myself a pair of jeans of the right size! That is how I found out I lost 3 sizes smaller and I still need to wear a belt. *grins*

Although my BMI is healthy, I still have to overcome my fats around my stomach and thighs. I have to tone up and keep on doing those walks.
Remember!
  • Not every body is the same. The key is to know what makes you gain weight and stop/reduce it and move around as much you can.
  • We are adaptable species, practice such lifestyle, it will become you and everything else comes easy
  • Losing is the easy part, its maintaining is the hardest especially when you lost weight and busy "celebrating" and think you don't have to work so hard anymore
P/S: Since we got a Wii fit, I am trying to discipline myself to do the workouts as much as possible. I hope I can keep it up because hey, I am as lazy as any random person in the room. ;D
